Designed to reflect its maritime history and surrounding environment, NSQ1 combines with its historic context to create a connection between past and present.
NSQ1 is the first phase of a 4-building office development in the Cork City Docklands. With a prominent position along the River Lee, the building is visible as people arrive into the city. The building is designed to reflect its maritime history and surrounding environment, creating a connection between past and present. This economically viable and highly sustainable Grade A development will have a positive influence on its important urban setting, while paving the way for the regeneration of the Cork City Docklands.
The site is at the fulcrum between the historic edge of Cork City and the newly expanding Cork City Docklands. As one of the first developments in the area it was important to set the highest standards while maintaining and respecting the surrounding heritage. This prominent location, along with its proximity to the river and vibrant architecture, allows the building to interact directly with the city core. The project's external expression is tied together through the rhythm, textures and variety of each elevation. The sustainability design approach for NSQ1 impacted decisions at every scale of the building from overall energy strategy, facade design and materiality to how the development is used and maintained during its intended design life.
