1SJRQ
1SJRQ has revitalized it’s surrounding area breathing life into the protected structures.
1SJRQ is a new mixed use office and retail development that demonstrates excellence in design and technical execution revitalizing it’s surrounding area breathing new life into the protected structures. The building is situated on a prominent corner site facing Sir John Rogeron’s Quay, Creighton Street and Windmill Lane and wraps around protected structures located on SJRQ. Its varying context has provided the opportunity for the building to respond appropriately to each condition, which is reflected in the unique building form and façade execution.
[29,062 sq ft]
1SJRQ forms a key part of the newly invigorated Windmill Quarter, the area with a rich heritage has been transformed in a vibrant new hub.
The presence of the protected structures within the site has sculpted the building form by stepping the north façade back from the river. Providing breathing space between the street and the building allows optimal form and configuration, providing a sensitive connection between old and new while amplifying the space between.
The building has a delicate crystal like quality which is countered and enhanced by the integration and wrapping of the solid brick forms of the protected structures. This transparency is further emphasized by the projecting glazed curved form, angled to connect with the internal atrium providing visual and physical continuity.
Achieving LEED Platinum certification
The incorporation of sustainable strategies into the project deliverables encouraged the commitment to sustainable design at a very early stage. This approach ensured that the development exceeded the requirements while maximising the reduction in Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions.
Sustainability benefits will require less energy, less services and less resources to operate than is required for existing developments. This will make the building more energy and environmentally efficient and will ensure that it is a more sustainable building into the future.
