Ropemaker Place Residential, Dublin, Ireland
Ropemaker Place is the first phase of a new urban quarter, which creates a new street ecology and a liveable sanctuary in contrast to the otherwise hard-landscape of Dublin’s Silicon Docks.
Ropemaker Place is an innovative solution on how to live with ease in a denser city. Within walking distance of many global-technology headquarters, this project demonstrates design strategies across all scales for how to live, work and relax within a streetbased urban environment.
Facing south onto Hanover Street East, it forms part of a mixed-use regeneration project for Marlet Property Group that also includes the Sorting Office to the East and One Lime Street and the Shipping office to its west. The urban design strategy was to create thin blocks with inner courtyards and soft graduated ecological edges to mitigate flood levels. A new pedestrian street that most living units overlook subdivides the site and the ambition is that this new route might eventually reach beyond the site and connect to the adjacent privately-owned Whitaker Square.
A six to seven-story L-shaped form completes a courtyard with existing housing at Ropemaker Place and includes fifty-six light-filled apartments above a retail ground-level of 180 sq m (1,950sq ft) and a parking podium.
