Custom House Quay, Port of Cork
The refurbishment of Custom House Quay buildings together with its new uses, sculptural tower and opening up of the dockside, will act as an important signal of the harbour’s rejuvenation.
The starting point for the design of this mixed-use city landmark was the restoration of the historic set-piece of the Custom House, the Revenue Building, and a bonded warehouse and the insertion of a slender 34-story hotel tower between these. Set to be the tallest building in Ireland, Custom House Quay redevelopment acts at a city scale and is located at the confluence of the River Lee and at the prow of the largest natural harbours in the world. The mixed-use development for Tower Holdings Group includes a hotel tower of glass with chamfered edges and a range of cultural amenities at its base, including a maritime centre and accessible quayside plazas.
