Maria is a Design Director at Henry J Lyons, having joined the practice in 2013. In her role, Maria brings a unique blend of international design sensibility and proven leadership in delivering complex, high-profile projects. Her approach combines a collaborative mindset with a commitment to creating architecture that is bold, enduring, and impactful, particularly within the education, civic and cultural sector. Maria is an architect who excels at guiding clients through complex projects, from initial concept development to project completion, consistently pushing for design focused solutions at every stage.
During her time at Henry J Lyons, Maria has played a pivotal role in shaping some of the practice’s most significant projects. Among her notable achievements is leading the design of Ireland House Tokyo, which won an international design competition in 2019. Maria successfully oversaw the delivery of this landmark project, collaborating with a local architect and design team in Tokyo to bring the vision to life. Maria’s leadership on the Ireland House Tokyo project exemplifies her ability to navigate complex challenges while maintaining the integrity of the design vision.
Maria has a special interest in working with third-level institutions, reflected in her decade-long involvement with the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland, as project architect.

Maria graduated from University College Dublin in 2011 before moving to New York to begin her career at the internationally acclaimed, design-focused architecture studio SO-IL. This experience at SO-IL in New York instilled in her a global perspective on innovative and design-led architecture, while her tenure at Henry J Lyons has deepened her expertise in delivering high quality projects that balance creativity with functionality.
